Simulated Water

The following graphs are derived from the baseline simulation run by the DNR.  The simulation tries to replicate reality.  This simulation is for the entire Republican River Basin, including all land in Colorado, Nebraska and that part of Kansas that drains into Nebraska.  WaterClaim does not say the assumptions made by the Modelers are correct.  We simply report what they say and make statements on they assumption they are correct.

It is very difficult to find anyone that understands the Model reports.  One hydrologist that works for an NRD tried to explain the report but most everything this hydrologist said was incorrect.  The DNR refuses to answer any questions about the report they generate.  They also prohibit any employ from talking to the public and bars any one that works for them with a non-disclosure agreement.  The DNR doesn't want anyone looking at the data or asking questions.  The DNR also ignores questions posed by NRD board members. The local NRD manager has been the most helpful of any policy makers.

The Republican River Compact Administration uses a program called MODFLOW to do its simulations.  The way they have it set, it generates a report once a month. A running total is kept of the monthly changes.  The graphs show the cumulative information.  The report often reports In when it means Out and Out when it means In.  We show the data as most humans understand in and out.

The information is for each month.  It is important to be aware of scale.  While the graphs may look the same they may actually show very different quantities.

Some of the graphs show the same data as other graphs but in different ways.

Water both enters and leaves the aquifer.  The Model started in 1918.  Water continues to enter the aquifer now.  However, beginning in 1965 it began to be removed at a faster rate than it entered.  As of 1997 the same amount of water was removed as entered since 1918.  In other words, the aquifer in 1997 had the same amount of water as it did in 1918.  Since 1997 we have begun to lower the aquifer from the 1918 level.

Constant Head is the amount of water movement at the borders of the Model.
